The motions for the loan from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for another 10 million US dollars was met with opposition in today’s Sitting of the Senate. The loan is a part of a project to upgrade the Caracol Road. First, Senator Mark Lizarraga spoke at length about the concerns he has, which included not being provided with enough information prior to the meeting.
The PUP Senators sided with Lizarraga, as they also had concerns about this loan. Dr Louis Zabaneh felt as though the money could have been put to better use.
The loan has a term of 20 years.
