The House Speaker is not the only public official that the Leader of the Opposition has found issues with. For months now, Moses Shyne Barrow has been calling for the resignation of the Police Commissioner, Chester Williams. Today was no different when he appeared on The Morning Show.
Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “His performance has reached an all-time low. I believe the Minister of Police also performs extremely poorly and for the sake of Belize we need a new leadership in the Ministry of Police and the Commissioner’s Office. Again, look at San Pedro. Look at San Pedro, tourist capital of Belize. Bless the baby Rodriguez, I mean again so where are the security forces? That execution of three people came about because one of those people was supposed to be cooperating with the police. And in the corrupt culture under the leadership of Chester Williams and Kareem Musa, it was disclosed to the criminal elements in San Pedro that this witness was cooperating and the witness was executed along with a three-year-old child. Again, this is the Belize, this is the Belize that we live in.”
Ernesto Vasquez, Host, The Morning Show: What would you do differently?
Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “Again, we would have a complete extreme reform and as I have said, when Nah executed -”
Troy Gabb, Host, The Morning Show: Alleged.
Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “Allegedly executed the victims on New Year’s it is a cultural pandemic, endemic corruption. That is what we have in the police department. Not all police officers are corrupt but there are enough there that it’s a prevailing culture and again, Kareem Musa promised that he would get rid of so I make the same promise, only difference is I will implement. You need to create an inspector general, you need to create offices that are truly independent where there will be true ramifications, true consequences.”
Troy Gabb, Host, The Morning Show: The former prime minister, your father, seemed to take a much more softer approach to Chester Williams. He was the one who appointed him, he admitted that. But he tends to think that we have the best we can get at this point in time. It comes off that way to me.
Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “Well, I totally disagree with that. Chester Williams has failed and it’s time for new leadership.”
