Opposition Leader Criticizes Government’s measures against Israel

While the government’s decision to take measures against Israel is being commended by many, the Leader of the Opposition, Shyne “Moses” Barrow, says the move is unprecedented. Barrow, who identifies as Jewish, held a press conference today and weighed in on the government’s decision, which follows a condemnation of Israel’s actions by both former living Prime Ministers. Barrow told the media that while his religion has nothing to do with his official statements, he believes the government is being hypocritical.

Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “When the terrorist organization Hamas attacked Israel, invaded Israel in that despicable assault that saw 1,400 civilians, children, women and men slaughtered as well as 200 hostages still being held the party deliberated the matter and issued a release after robust debates on both sides of the spectrum. We issued a release that we all agreed rose to the occasion. Me being Jewish has nothing to do with my position. Just like me being Dean Barrow’s son has nothing to do with his position. He has a totally different position than I do. And we’re still very friendly and we talk every week and you know we just agree to disagree on that matter. So please do not belittle my integrity and my character by presuming that because of my religious practices my position is driven by that. It surely isn’t. However I do believe that the extremes lengths to which the PUP government has gone as unprecedented and unparalleled. And let’s just look at Russia. Over 60,000, 70,000 people have died since Russia invaded Ukraine. Tens of thousands of civilians have died. Women, children there was a point where the Government of Belize, the PUP government, the Briceño administration said nothing. We actually put out a press release condemning them for not opposing the behavior of Russia. You look at journalist Jamal Khashoggi, which the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, who we are taking a lot of money from right now. A lot of picture-taking. I know there were visits recently. There was an entire delegation that visited Saudi Arabia. And that Crown Prince according to intelligence from the international community, including the CIA, ordered a journalist chopped into pieces. They still haven’t recovered his body. Nothing about that from the PUP government.”
