Leader of the Opposition, Moses “Shyne” Barrow, has raised concerns about the cost of gasoline in the country. Last month, the Statistical Institute of Belize released data showing the price of Premium Gasoline at $13.77 per gallon, Regular Gasoline at $12.04, and Diesel at $11.79. At a press briefing this week, Barrow emphasized that government-levied taxes are the biggest contributors to fuel prices and criticized the Briceño administration for maintaining consistently high taxes.

Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “Religiously talk about the high cost of fuel. I had that as a question to ministers in the last house sitting and it is not rocket scientists. It is not a lot that is needed in order to deal with lowering the cost of fuel. It is a will and the Prime Minister has made it clear that he does not have the desire to lower the cost of fuel because the taxes on high cost of fuel that is what is paying for the different bills that the government has.”
Barrow also highlighted that high gas prices were a major complaint of the People’s United Party when they were in opposition.
