Opposition Leader Faces Rebellion within United Democratic Party Ranks

The Opposition Leader Moses Shyne Barrow held a National Party Council Meeting on Saturday to dissect the United Democratic Party’s loss on March 6. But it seems the UDP Leader wasn’t the only one that held a meeting this weekend. That’s because Barrow’s meeting at UDP’s headquarters was boycotted by several of the party’s standard bearers, including Patrick Faber and John Saldivar, who had a meeting of their own. Unconfirmed but reliable reports indicate that the meeting surrounded efforts to remove Barrow as the party’s leader. Unconfirmed reports indicate that a total of fourteen UDP standard bearers boycotted Barrow’s meeting. On Friday, Barrow was asked if efforts to remove him would surface at this weekend’s event. Here’s how he responded. 

Reporter: Can we begin with tomorrow’s NPC meeting and your expectations for it following the municipal elections ? 

Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “Well tomorrow’s National Party Council meeting is a post mortem so that we can reflect on all of the activities leading up to March 6 and the results and all the takeaways so that we can learn, grow and do far better in the general elections.”

Reporter: Do you have any concerns that the party might – 

In an interview this weekend, Barrow stated that he had the majority at his meeting and had been elected by a national convention. The LOO stated that he is aware some individuals have ambitions to lead the party, but he is focused on what he says is a majority who are satisfied with the party’s current leadership.
