Amid all the policy papers and manifesto promises by the PUP, what stood out today was John Briceno’s commitment to resign as the PUP’s Party Leader if they lose the next general elections. It is an explosive statement made, much like counting chickens. Here is how that statement went.
Reporter: Whenever the election is called, if the People’s United Party fails on that day would you resign as the party leader?
Hon. John Briceno, Opposition Leader, People’s United Party: Why would you ask such a leading question ? Of course I will resign. But I don’t think it’s a matter of losing I am very very confident that we’re going win the next government but an important point about the Prime Minister calling the election one of the things that we’re talking about as it is right now is of the amendments that we want to do is to have a fixed date for election so everybody will know when the election is doing and I kind of smile; preferably I would like them to call elections in March because it’s not too hot and and it’s not raining.”
