Opposition Leader Stands by Criticism of Speaker of the House

Another issue on the table with the opposition leader was his disrespect to the Speaker of the House, Valerie Woods.  After having time to reflect on his actions, Moses Shyne Barrow, says he stands by what he says – that the Speaker is a waste of time.

Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “I stand by my position and what people need to realize this is not a dictatorship. In the Standing Orders of the House the section that she likes to quote about not questioning the authority of the speaker it says the same thing about any member of the National Assembly so she has to treat me the same way that she wants to be treated. And what the Speaker of the House has created is a hostile environment. An environment where people behave unruly and unscrupulous. I have pointed out many instances where the member from Pickstock called me curse words and threatened me to meet him outside and what did the speaker do ? The speaker she got up and she left. She did not sanction him. And again threatening any member of the House with any type of insinuation of any physical harm that should have been dealt with. When the member from Cayo South calls me a jail bird and calls the former Leader of the Opposition Honorable Faber a boy and when Briceno tells both me and Faber that were were suffering from attention deficit disorder the speaker does nothing.”

The Leader of the Opposition is to face the Privileges Committee as a result of his behavior in the last House Meeting on August 11.
