The Central Bank Amendment Bill 2022 followed the lengthy debate on the General Revenue Supplementary Appropriation Bill. The Central Bank Amendment Bill seeks to increase the capitalization of the bank from thirty million dollars to fifty dollars. The move is reportedly, a security of sorts, whereby if the country faces a liquidity issue then the bank would be able to intervene if necessary. It seems like a practical safeguard for the country’s economy, but Opposition Senator, Michael Peyrefitte, had some questions and concerns which he voiced.
Senator for Government Business, Eamon Courtenay responded to the concerns of Senator Peyrefitte. His response, of course, did come with some satire and ridicule.
