Opposition Urges Transparency: Calls for Public Disclosure of COP-28 Delegation Participants and Expenses

Tonight, the opposition is calling on the government to publicize the list of participants representing Belize at COP-28 and the cost of the trip. The United Democratic Party says it, quote, “condemns the government’s waste of resources to finance a luxurious round-trip vacation to Dubai for a massive delegation, once again including friends and relatives of ministers.” End of quote.  The party says that the country has not been able to purchase a single CT-Scan machine for its entire public health system but is sending the largest delegation per capita, inclusive of as many as six ministers and seven CEOs. Additionally, the UDP notes that Belize’s delegation must be led not only with the requisite technical expertise but simultaneously with integrity and accountability.
