And while the budget may have been boring, there were some fireworks today in the House of Representatives. The contention was based on the usage of words such as “boy” and “repeat offenders”. Cayo South Area Representative Julius Espat called Opposition Leader Patrick Faber a “boy” and the Speaker of the House demanded that it be struck off the record. But the member for Mesopotamia Shyne Barrow pressed the issue, demanding that the Speaker Valerie Woods demand an apology from Espat. Shyne says the use of the word, “boy” has racial undertones. Without the apology, Faber led his party out of the national assembly chamber.
