A renewed call has been made for improved electricity access in parts of Belmopan, as area representative Oscar Mira highlighted ongoing challenges faced by residents, particularly in the Rivera area. Speaking to the media, Mira said that while progress has been made with road construction and access ways in several developing neighborhoods, electricity connectivity has not always kept pace with that development. He stressed that residents are eager to regularize their living conditions and access basic utilities but continue to face delays. Mira noted that he has been doing his part by facilitating infrastructure improvements, including road works, to ensure communities are accessible and properly laid out. He is now appealing to Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) to work more closely with residents and local representatives to accommodate households that are ready for electricity connections. According to Mira, coordinated efforts between government representatives, utility providers, and residents are critical to ensuring orderly and sustainable development as Belmopan continues to expand.
Minister Mira says he recognizes that access to electricity is not a luxury, but a basic necessity that supports safety, quality of life, and economic opportunity, particularly for families settling in growing communities on the outskirts of the capital
