Over a dozen businesses are currently being taken to court by the Government of Belize for the practice of price gouging. The Briceno Administration has been adamant about cracking down on the practice and has taken extra measures to penalize merchandisers and retailers engaging in the illegal act. According to Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, Jose Mai, his ministry is working closely with the Attorney General’s Office to weed out businesses engaging in the act.
Mai added that a ticking system that will allow consumers to report cases of price gouging is before the cabinet and is expected to be finalized in the coming months.
