The Government of Belize formally exported over two hundred heads of cattle yesterday from the Orange Walk District to Mexico. The formal trade agreement was established last year through efforts of the Briceno Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise. This round of exportation saw ranchers from the Shipyard community sell their cattle to the Mexican company, SUKARNE, which will distribute the Belizean meats in different parts of Mexico. At an official ceremony held at the Cacabix Ranch, Prime Minister Briceño spoke about the role agriculture has played in the recovery of the nation’s economy and the importance of establishing trade agreements with neighboring countries.
Minister of Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai noted that cattle exports to Mexico are expected to regularize on a weekly basis throughout the rest of the year as both countries continue to develop favorable agreements that will enable cattle from all over Belize to be exported to Mexico.
