Paguada Brothers Sentenced to 30 Years for Premeditated Murder of Jimell Paul Jex

Tione and Delson Paguada were under heavy security this morning as the appeared in court this morning.  20-year-old, Tione and 24-year-old, Delson were both found guilty for the murder of Jimell Paul Jex which occurred in 2018.  Their appearance in court today was to receive their sentencing from Justice Nigel Pilgrim.  Both men were handed down a sentence of 30 years which amounted to 24 for Delson and 21 for Tione, after mitigation pleas and other factors were taken into consideration.  The court also heard from the victim’s mother, in what is referred to as a Victim Impact Statement.  Mary Jex spoke on the challenges and pains that she has suffered since the murder, and that she is now left to help care for the six children he left behind, whilst seeking help for her own care.  In her statement, Jex asked that the maximum sentence be given to the Paguada brothers.  According to the notes of our court reporter, Justice Pilgrim declared that there was clear premeditation as Jex was ambushed, grabbed off his bicycle, and shot in the head in the first instance.  Justice Pilgrim additionally noted that the murder was an ‘overkill’ as Jex was shot as many as five times.  The arrangement to have the brothers heavily guarded, stems from the brothers’ previous court appearance where they acted belligerent and violent when they were handed down the verdict.  The men were heavily shackled from the waist to their feet, guarded by nine police officers, including three from the GI3. The murder victim, Jimell Paul Jex, was killed in January 2018, some fifteen minutes after exiting the courtroom in San Pedro where he was cleared of drug charges.  He was a known as a high ranking member of the George Street gang.
