Belize’s Parliamentarians will be meeting tomorrow for a House Meeting in Belmopan. There is talk that the Prime Minister will be dissolving the House of Representatives tomorrow and will be announcing elections. It is anybody’s guess when this will really happen, and so the media tried finding out from the Attorney General what is planned for tomorrow.
Hon. Michael Peyrefitte, Minister of National Security: “There’s always talk about when the House will be dissolved especially when you’re this close to an election but that’s within the purview of the Prime Minister and the Leader Elect so I will leave it to them for them to answer and determine that. From what I know I am in the Senate so what is sent to the Senate is the business that’s sent from the House but as far as I know it’s primarily what was dealt with at the first House meeting last week and this second House meeting is just to go through the second and third readings of different bills. I know there should be a defense act that’s very superficial that should be going up for the first time to be read for the first time but I don’t expect there to be any surprises at this House meeting for Friday. Then again I don’t sit in the House so I don’t know.”
