Since its inception in 2004, Partners for Medical Relief (PMR) has made an indelible impact on healthcare in Belize. What began with a humble team of 23 volunteers has grown into an organization involving over 200 participants annually, delivering essential medical services to underserved communities. Through a mission deeply rooted in Christian values, PMR aims to bridge gaps in medical care, strengthen local capabilities, and inspire lasting transformation. Executive Director John Kirby expressed that their work not only addresses immediate healthcare needs but also builds the infrastructure and expertise necessary for Belize to sustain these improvements independently.
The scope of PMR’s services is extensive with medical teams conducting thousands of evaluations in rural villages, offering free pharmaceuticals and performing a wide range of surgeries, including ENT, plastic, and general procedures. Kirby elaborated that PMR’s mission centers on empowering Belize to achieve self-sustaining, high-quality healthcare.
The organization has announced plans for another medical mission from January 30 to February 6 in Corozal and Orange Walk districts.
