At the police press briefing in Belize City on Thursday, the death of Constable Kenyon Pandy was addressed. Police are saying that information gathered indicate that Police Constable Kenyon Pandy lost control of the vehicle he was driving, leading to his demise. As has been reported, 27-year-old PC Pandy was driving a brown Toyota corolla heading east of Punta Gorda. He was accompanied by another police officer, WPC Shenique Zuniga and her four year old son. Pandy reportedly lost control of the vehicle which flipped several times before coming to a stop in bushes at the side of the highway. ACP Joseph Myvett provided more details.
ACP Joseph Myvette Head, National Crime Investigation Branch: “Somewhere in that area Pandy lost control of the vehicle and it overturned several times causing him to be thrown from the vehicle. He received head and body injuries whilst WPC Zuniga received a dislocated left shoulder and the minor only received a burst lip. All were transported to the Punta Gorda Hospital where Kenyon Pandy succumbed to his injuries whilst undergoing treatment. WPC Zuniga and her 4 year old son were later transported to the Southern Regional Hospital. She has since been released from the hospital yesterday and she is recuperating.”
ACP Myvett says they have no information to indicate whether Pandy was driving under the influence. His body now lies at the PG morgue awaiting a postmortem.
