People from various walks of life took to the streets today. It was not a violent demonstration, but one to call for peace on the streets and to honour William Dawson a man, who fought for that peace. Dawson, up to the time of his passing, served as the chairman of the Leadership Intervention Unit. Dawson played a vital role in keeping the peace within Belize City, particularly in marginalized communities. He is believed to have directly contributed to the lull in gang violence seen within the past months. To ensure that peace is kept, today Belizeans paraded the city streets echoing a message of unity. Giovanni Brackett, who sits on the LIU’s Board of Directors, says the event was all about ensuring Dawson’s hard work continues.
The Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams also weighed in on the importance of keeping peace in Belize City and carrying on Dawson’s legacy.
