PeaceWork Belize is empowering female entrepreneurs

PeaceWork Belize has made the call for a training opportunity for 50 female entrepreneurs. It’s part of their program Empowered and Resilient Women Training. According to Executive Director Dr. Carol Babb, the participants will receive the skills to create and manage their own business as well as assist them with key financial concepts. Love News spoke to her about why programs like this are important.

Dr.Carol Babb, Executive Director, Peacework Belize: It’s focused on women entrepreneurs and I was asked to give it a catchy name and I gave it the name ERW, Empowered Resilient Woman. This training will make these women empowered. They will be empowered with the skills and knowledge to become successful women as any entrepreneur would tell you that you have to be able to be strong to believe in yourself to take risks and these women will become resilient. They will be able to bounce back regardless of what things they ave, what struggles they may encounter because as new business persons they will encounter things that may not go as well as they expect. So they know through our training we will help them to realize that they will encounter risk but we will train them how to fight back, how to become resilient. So this training is called the Empowered Resilient Women so when in discussion with the Taiwanese Embassy they wanted to focus on women because they realize that when you train, when you educate a woman you educate the entire family, you educate the entire community. Women are noted to look after their own, to look after not only themselves but their children and those around them and so this empowerment training will enable these women to be able to become financially stable. They will be able to support their children in education to ensure that their children are eating nutritiously. That will enable them to become aware of the importance of their children staying in school and becoming the best that they can.”

The initial project is under the framework of the Women Empowerment Project, which collaborated between the Government of Belize, the Taiwan Embassy and the Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize. For its part, the Taiwan Government says that it will continue to cooperate with the Government of Belize to improve women’s capacity building in Belize and to enhance the benefits of their people.
