People’s Constitution Commission Launches Campaign to Educate Belizeans

Ninety-eight percent, that’s how much of Belize has not read the country’s constitution according to the People’s Constitution Commission (PCC). Following the launch of the PCC’s education and consultation campaign last week, the Commission has been hard at work finding ways to engage the population on the fundamental rights and freedoms guaranteed to them in the constitution. PCC Chairman Anthony Chanona told Love News today that getting youths involved is pivotal in the campaign. As such the Ministry of Education has stepped in to partner with the PCC and designated the month of September as Constitution Month. Chanona says that during the month several activities will be held to increase youth participation, with student debates being a major attraction.

We reached out to the Ministry for comment but were told that many of the details are still being fine-tuned. We’ll have that update in another news cast.
