Political rivalry is looming at the Port Loyola constituency between the People’s United Party and United Democratic Party Standard Bearers. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the UDP Standard Bearer is reportedly being attacked via social media by his opponent, Gilroy Usher. Usher alleged that Willoughby expressed strong opposition to Financial Assistance for those unemployed before the COVID-19 pandemic. Willoughby stated that enough is enough and that this is not the time to play party politics.
Philip Willoughby, UDP Standard Bearer, Port Loyola Division: “Basically I am asking the PUP Standard Bearer for Port Loyola to kindly cease and desist, stop being immature at this time, stop playing petty party politics because this is no time for that but for some reason this gentleman- I don’t even think he deserves to be called a gentlemen- but nonetheless but he continues posting pictures with myself as the Standard Bearer for Port Loyola then he posts a second post, a third post, a fourth post, a fifth post as well as I am a board member on the Social Security Board yes that is true that is fact but I have absolutely nothing to do with the special select oversight committee that is responsible for the dispensing of the government stimulus through Social Security Board. I have absolutely nothing to do with any decision making or process that is done via that committee. The Prime Minister said that this is not a political matter, this is country above and beyond party politics but again the guy keeps on putting up posts on social media as you have seen calling me out like I have anything to do with this and I’m saying ‘boss if you deh pan wah simple pills get off of that.'”
He also expressed that he has no involvement in the criteria which corresponds with the selection of these persons.
Philip Willoughby, UDP Standard Bearer, Port Loyola Division: “What I did at the early onset earlier in March on the onset I reached out to Mr.Usher to say ‘Hear this. It is a united front for us to come together to fight the pandemic.’ I extended my hand to him right here on your morning show Love FM, I did it on Krem, I did it on Wave Radio, I sent him messages for us to collaborate and work together on any initiative that would impact and benefit the constituency positively rather than there would be any double dipping or duplication within a zone or area within the division that was simply it but the fellow continues on every day posting libelous and frivolous information so I’m asking you through this medium cease and desist sir because this is fake news and after this it will go to the relevant authorities that needs go because I am not on any committee approving or disapproving or qualifying or disqualifying anything for any one.”
Reporter: He also made an allegation that you are against persons receiving the relief funds if they have not working prior to this.
Philip Willoughby, UDP Standard Bearer, Port Loyola Division:“Well this is just it. I didn’t make any rules, I didn’t set any criteria that was done by the committee to say that – I believe one of the criteria were you had to be over 18, you had to be a Belizean, you couldn’t have been benefiting from any other government social program that was simply it but if you are boosting people up to figure that you’re just going out there without asking the proper question or guiding people properly everybody out there will think that they qualify or they deserve. It is not for him or I to say who qualifies or deserve or are the deserving recipients it is the committee not me and that committee is made up of representation of both PUP and UDP so why this idiot keep call my name.? “
Usher also called out Doug Singh, the former Chairman for the Social Security Board, for belittling Belizeans along with Willoughby.
