Phillips charged with Attempted Murder

Twenty-eight-year-old Curlan Phillips, who allegedly shot Inmar Welch, was charged with attempted murder when he appeared today before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford. Phillips was also charged with dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm. Senior Magistrate Ford told him that he will have to give her special reasons for her to grant him bail, otherwise, the court cannot consider bail until after three months have passed. Phillips said he has a two-year-old son who has a hole in his heart and he is the only person his son has to take care of him. But he did not produce anything to substantiate his claim. He also said that the incident occurred from March 2017 and the matter was already settled out of court.  He complained that the police brought the matter all over again and they did so in November, coming on to Christmas. Nevertheless, he was remanded into custody until January 29. The incident occurred on March 8. Twenty-six-year-old Welch, a fisherman of Freedom Street, reported to the police that he was socializing in front of a house on Jones Street when a brown Xterra vehicle drove and a gunman exited it and fired several shots in his direction. Welch was shot in his lower back.
