The Briceno Administration this morning tabled a one point five-million-dollar Supplementary Appropriation Bill for ex-gratia payment to the 108 stevedores of the Christian Workers Union. The bill was approved and passed by the House of Representatives, but the money remains tied up in the courts after the Port of Belize Limited successfully applied for an interim injunction. The Port says that the government failed to seek the permission of the national assembly when the money was approved and disbursed to the CWU. Today, the Prime Minister, John Briceno, gave an explanation on the issue.
The case continues tomorrow before Supreme Court Justice Lisa Shoman.
