PM Briceno Comments on the US Possibly of Sourcing Oil from Venezuela

Russia is one of the largest oil producers in the world and to ease the impacts, the US has reportedly engaged Venezuela, hoping to secure alternative oil supplies. If those talks are successful, countries like Belize could greatly benefit. Here is how PM Briceno addressed this situation.

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister Belize: “The problem with Venezuela is that the United States has them under sanctions and that there’s absolutely nothing they can do. They can’t even move the monies that they have here in Belize there to them so unfortunately.”

Reporter: Do you feel a changing, right now, negotiations?

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister Belize: We shall see what that time happens but even when that happens, Venezuela has already said that it’s going to take them about a year to get to the production they had before because a lot of their places are board and they have to go fix it.”
