And Prime Minister John Briceno says Michael Peyrefitte can weigh all the options he wants because Senator Montejo will not be removed from the Redistricting Task Force. PM Briceno explains why.
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize: “Senator Peyrefitte obviously he’s a lawyer and obviously he does not have a lot of private work so he has a lot of free time on his hands so everything he wants to go to court. He’s not a successful private lawyer obviously so he has written a letter stating that Collet Montejo should be moved from the Senate. We had legal advice when the decision was made and the point is that Collet Montejo is a part of a task force and that he is not even being paid to try to advise or to work assist the redistricting exercise. So obviously the case that he’s trying to make it makes no sense so we’re not really concerned on that matter. I think what he needs to be concerned with is that under the Elections and Boundaries Commission a member of the Elections and Boundaries Commission cannot be politically active and one of their members Mr.August is the Secretary General and very active politically so he should not be in the Elections and Boundaries Commission.”
