Prime Minister John Briceno is in Guyana, attending the Agri-Food Investment Forum and Expo. It is being held under the theme: “Investing in Vision 25 by 2025”. The overall goal of this important event is to achieve the 25% by 2025 vision of reducing regional food imports by fostering accelerated and targeted investment in agriculture and food production and its business ecosystem within CARICOM member states. PM Briceno who is also the Pro-temp chairman of CARICOM in his speech explained that increased investment in agriculture and food production is critical.
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize: “Investing in Vision 25 by 2025 is the theme chosen for this event. It is more than a catchy slogan. It is in effect a plan which intends to see our region reduce its dependency on food import products by 25% over the next 3 1/2 years. To do this we the member states that make up CARICOM will have to work with our agro producers to foster accelerated and targeted investment in food production.”
Briceno says that the forum is geared toward the promotion, engagement, and informed dialogue among key stakeholders along the agri-food value chain —policymakers, development partners, foreign and local private investors, farmers, distributers—on how investment could be encouraged. Briceno is accompanied by Agriculture Minister Jose Mai and Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Stuart Leslie.
