Prime Minister John Briceño met with the President of the Republic of El Salvador Nayib Bukele on Saturday following the inauguration ceremony of Bukele’s second term in office. PM Briceno congratulated Bukele during a cordial meeting at the Casa Presidencial. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT) says the leaders spoke on matters of mutual interest, and in their discussions, President Bukele thanked Briceno for offering a home to thousands of Salvadoran nationals. Briceño arrived in San Salvador this weekend to attend the ceremony alongside other dignitaries including Spanish King Felipe VI and Argentinian President Javier Milei. Our Foreign Affairs Ministry wrote on Facebook that Belize is home to a vibrant presence of the Salvadoran diaspora, and our bilateral cooperation agenda will continue to promote exchanges in culture, education, trade, health, tourism, security, and agriculture. Bukele was re-elected in February with 85 percent of the vote in El Salvador. During his visit, Briceno also met with the President of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chavez Robles, and the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani. The government says with Costa Rica, Briceno discussed strengthening cooperation in sustainable development, environmental protection and tourism, and the Central American Integration System (SICA).
