Tonight, there is a continued impasse between the sugar cane farmers and BSI/ASR. A new commercial agreement between both entities is yet to be signed and that is because there are a few points that they are not coming to terms with. There were concerns that the impasse could delay the upcoming sugar cane season, but after a meeting with the Prime Minister, the farmers were strongly urged to start the season ahead of time while there are still good weather conditions. Additionally, the government has urged both parties to come to the table and iron out their differences as the new crop season progresses. It is a tricky situation as without a commercial agreement there is room for lawsuits and controversy between the farmers and BSI/ASR. Love News understands that BSI/ASR is concerned over the situation and are looking at ways to address the situation. Our newsroom tried reaching the Minister of Agriculture and the executive of the various cane farmers association, but our calls went unanswered. We will continue following this story.
