PM Briceno Returns from Panama, Urges Vigilance Ahead of Hurricane Beryl

Prime Minister John Briceno returned home today after attending the Presidential Transfer of Command Ceremony of the Newly Elected, His Excellency Jose Raul Molino Quintero in Panama City, Panama.  Upon his return, the PM addressed the nation cautioning residents to take heed to the weather reports.

John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize: “Residents, especially in the north, should brace for strong winds gusting to tropical storm strength and heavy rainfall due to the hurricane’s proximity to the northern half of our country. As of now, from Belize City to Corozal, as well as residents in the cayes are under a tropical storm watch which will later become a tropical storm warning. Residents in the north should prepare for flooding especially those in low-lying flood-prone areas. Strong winds may cause some structural damage to homes and could also result in losses in the agricultural sector. Since we face potential damaging impacts from the storm, it is crucial for everyone to be prepared. Please look after your family and friends by ensuring that all necessary precautions are taken for the safety of your loved ones. As you have seen, NEMO, the Met Office and our National and District Committees have all put their operations in place and are now operating in a state of heightened readiness.”

Also out of the country this week was Minister of NEMO, Andre Perez.  He is expected to return to San Pedro today where he will remain for the coming days.
