Finance Minister, Prime Minister John Briceno, says his government is steps closer in successfully restructuring the so-called superbond. The Briceno Administration was scheduled to make a coupon payment on May twenty but it managed to extend the grace period to September nineteen. Last month, GOB announced results of a successful consent solicitation. Bondholders had initially resisted another restructuring, but PM Briceno says a successful restructuring is on the horizon.
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize: “We’re getting closer. Both sides put their offers in the extreme and we’re coming closer and closer to an agreement or to a number that I believe both sides will be able to agree. I think that should be ending sometime around 20th or something like that towards the end of August. We are confident that we’ll be able to have an agreement by then.”
