PM Briceno Sends Words of Support to Cuba

Prime Minister John Briceno and Foreign Minister Senator Eamon Courtenay have both issued statements in solidarity with the Cuban Government and people. This follows an explosion at the Caribbean island’s Saratoga Hotel last Friday. In a message, written in Spanish, PM Briceno said quote “Our hearts and thoughts are with all who were affected by this tragedy” Unquote. He added quote “I am pleased to learn that Belizean doctors and students were among those first to go to the scene of the tragedy to provide help. That shows our gratitude and therefore that of Belizean people to the Cuban people, who have given them so much” End quote. Minister Courtenay tweeted “We offer our deepest sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones, and to the Cuban people for the tragic losses at Hotel Saratoga” End quote. Cuba’s Ministry of Public Health says that the death toll now stands at 40. The explosion is believed to have been caused by a gas leak explosion at the hotel.
