PM Briceno to Attend CARICOM Agri-Investment Forum and Expo

Prime Minister John Briceno left the country on Tuesday to participate in the CARICOM Agri-Investment Forum and Expo. The event, which is taking place in Georgetown, Guyana, will be held from May 19 to 21. Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, Jose Mai and Cabinet Secretary, Ambassador Stuart Leslie are both accompanying the PM on this occasion. This visit is important because Minister Mai had last week raised concerns about Belize’s trading opportunities in the CARICOM. He cited some of the challenges Belize’s poultry farmers had in getting their chicken into Grenada and recent trade dispute over brown sugar with Trinidad & Tobago and St. Kitts & Nevis. However, he insisted that Belize should maintain ties with CARICOM but at the same time create stronger links with Central America and Mexico. Prime Minister Briceno will return to the country on Sunday. Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde will be acting as Prime Minister until Briceno returns.
