Five days ago we reported that the new Minister of National Security would be the Attorney General, Michael Peyrefitte.  Earlier today the Government of Belize confirmed this report saying that Peyrefitte who is also a UDP Senator is filling the vacancy created by John Saldivar when he resigned from Cabinet.  Peyrefitte retains the seat of the Attorney General and will be assisted in the Ministry of National Security by Elodio Aragon, who as the Minister of State will oversee the ministry’s day to day operations.  Another change is the separation of the Minister for Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development from the Ministry of Agriculture.  It is a promotion for Minister Omar Figueroa as he will be the substantive Minister for Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment, and Sustainable Development and will no longer work under Minister Godwin Hulse.  Hulse retains the seat of substantive Minister for the agriculture and immigration portfolios.  There is also a new Senator in the name of Payal Ghanwani.  She replaces Senator Stephen Duncan who also resigned last week.  Ghanwani is an attorney at law originally from the Corozal District.  She did her law studies at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill.
