Castro Feels Jilted as Minister of State Following Three Consecutive Wins

Last Wednesday Belize Rural North Area Representative, Edmund Castro, won his seat for the third time. There were expectations, especially among his constituents that Castro would finally be given a full ministry.  It can be recalled that since being elected the most he has gotten was that of being a Junior Minister.  Well it was not meant to be as once again Castro was relegated to being a Minister of State.  Prime Minister Dean Barrow said not moving Castro up to a full Minister was a difficult decision to make.

Again it had to do with a number of things and I will concede that that was the most difficult decision of all and Edmund was not happy and I don’t blame him.  I made it plain that I accepted the legitimacy of his complaints but taking everything into consideration I thought that adding the NEMO portfolio to the area for which he is responsible would be sufficient or the best that I could do and so that’s that.”

In the three elections Castro has contested, he has won his seat convincingly.
