Last Wednesday Belize Rural North Area Representative, Edmund Castro, won his seat for the third time. There were expectations, especially among his constituents that Castro would finally be given a full ministry. It can be recalled that since being elected the most he has gotten was that of being a Junior Minister. Well it was not meant to be as once again Castro was relegated to being a Minister of State. Prime Minister Dean Barrow said not moving Castro up to a full Minister was a difficult decision to make.

“Again it had to do with a number of things and I will concede that that was the most difficult decision of all and Edmund was not happy and I don’t blame him. I made it plain that I accepted the legitimacy of his complaints but taking everything into consideration I thought that adding the NEMO portfolio to the area for which he is responsible would be sufficient or the best that I could do and so that’s that.”
In the three elections Castro has contested, he has won his seat convincingly.
