The Central body of the Police Association says that Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, was hasty, in calling the incident with Aaron Wilson an abuse of power by police. The Association issued a statement acknowledging that the allegations of Wilson’s rights being violated at the Ladyville Police Station are serious but stressed that the Commissioner should not have publicly condemned the officer at this stage. The association issued a statement saying quote, “This hasty action on his part is troubling, as it suggests a lack of regard for due process and a presumption of guilt before all the facts have been gathered and analyzed. As the head of the police department, it is imperative that the commissioner demonstrate a commitment to fairness and impartiality in all matters, particularly those involving allegations against fellow officers,” end of quote. The association stressed that the footage of the encounter between Wilson and the officer does not give the full picture of what transpired and called on the ComPol to refrain from making any further public statements on the matter until all the facts have been established.
