Commissioner of Police Chester Williams is reassuring the public that their safety will remain a top priority on Election Day, despite a recent uptick in shooting incidents. Since the murder of three men over the weekend, many in the public domain have questioned whether there will be any acts of relation on Election Day. Today, Williams allayed the concerns of residents and stated that police officers will be strategically positioned to prevent any disruptions or threats to the voting process.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I want to categorically and emphatically state to the Belizean people that it is going to be safe for them to come out and cast their vote tomorrow for elections. As much as yes we’re stretched thin, particularly in Belize City, I have put together our operational plans for tomorrow to make sure that we have adequate number of police officers from the specialized unit to conduct operations in Belize City tomorrow and those persons who we believe are problematic will be detained. They might not have the chance to vote but we are not going to put the elections at peril because of these people. It’s not going to happen. So again feel free and feel safe to come out tomorrow.”
The polls open at 7am and close at 6pm.
