The recent spike in gun violence, particularly in South Side Belize City, has raised concerns among Belize City residents. In a press briefing on Monday, Southside Commander Senior Superintendent Marco Vidal said police are on high alert to ensure public safety particularly as the September celebrations activities are beginning.

“We are cognizant of the fact that it is approaching the September celebration festivities and we will do what is necessary to ensure that the citizens are safe in their communities and we are in fact doing so. Community po9loicing, the philosophy has been here for quite some time so it is not something new. What I can say to you is that those initiatives are departmental philosophies; they are in fact being followed. Every single aspect of community policing is being done.”
