Police believe Cemetery Road shooting is gang related

Just before the shooting on Fabers Road in Belize City, one Hugh Thomas was shot sometime after seven o’clock in the night while driving. ASP Cowo says that they have reason to believe that the shooting was gang related.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, CIB: “Sometime after 7PM police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they observed a male person by the name of Hugh Thomas, a 25 year old Belizean suffering from a gunshot wound to the left side of this back. What police has gathered so far is that Mr.Thomas was driving his vehicle on Cemetery Road heading toward Aldes Street and whilst approaching Pregnant Alley a male person came out of the alley and fired several shots at his direction causing the above mentioned injuries. He was admitted last night and treated for his injuries. He was admitted and treated and later discharged from the hospital. So far no one has been detained but police are seeking two persons for questioning in regards to this shooting. We understand and we have cleared the rivalry between the two neighboring gangs within that area and we suspect that that shooting is because of that rivalry that exists between the two gangs in the immediate area. He is a well known person from one of the neighboring gangs in that area.”

Police have not made any detentions and are looking for two persons for questioning.
