In the Cayo District, shots rang out in Teakettle Village this morning. We understand that Corporal Meredith Budna was sitting under a bus shed, waiting for Detective Constable Marcos Kingston, both are attached to the Anti-Narcotics Unit when gunshots were heard. The officers sprang into action in pursuit of the shooter. Police Commissioner Chester Williams provided an update.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Yes I know this morning some time around three a police officer reported that he was waiting for a transport to pick him up and while doing so he heard the sound of gunshots being fired. When he turned around his colleague came and both of them saw the person fleeing the area. They fired shots at the person but the person was able to get to a vehicle and went about his business. The vehicle that the person got into was not properly identified by the officers, neither was the person and so at this time it is difficult for us to know exactly who is involved.”
Reporter: And do you know who was the intended target in that case ?
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Well I don’t know. I don’t know if the shots were fired at the police or in the air but the police officer did say he heard the shots fired and when he looked he saw a person and they pursued the person.”
At the scene, investigators found two 9-millimetre-expended shells.
