Police Commissioner Admits Issues Correction on Employing Alleged Gang Leader

On two occasions in recent months, the media asked the Police Commissioner if Alex ‘Wanie’ Underwood was receiving monies from the Leadership Intervention Unit (LIU).  Commissioner Chester Williams denied the report, until today when he provided the media with a copy of a pay slip, admitting that he had made an error and was only informed  over the weekend that Underwood was on the payroll.  Williams says that the alleged SSG leader was a member of the LIU up until he was arrested last week for being a gang member. On Friday, Williams told the media that the alleged gang and another man, who is the main suspect in the murder of Phozhaun Lewis, were never members of the LIU.
