Police Commissioner Assures Readiness for Maintaining Law and Order on Election Day

Police Commissioner Chester Williams has assured the media that the police officers are ready to maintain law and order on Election Day.  He spoke on the matter on Friday, saying that they officers are working closely with the Elections and Boundaries Department.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “We have been doing this for time immemorial and I must say that the Chief Elections Officer Ms. Tamai had conducted training with the police officers across the country to make sure that police are familiar with the election rules as well as what is expected of them during election time and likewise from our own operational standpoint we do have our training with our officers, we do produce an operational orders that guides the work of the police during election time so to answer your question yes we’re prepared and ready for elections.”

As it relates to the sale of liquor, no business or person will be allowed to sell alcohol tomorrow.  This rule applies from seven o’clock in the morning when the polls open to when the counting is finished.  There is also a ban on loudspeakers.  The regulation notes that no one business or private entity should supply signs, flags, buntings, loudspeakers, or banners that are intended to be used on Election Day for political propaganda.  It also states that no one should utilize any of these materials for political motives or propaganda on Election Day.
