Police Commissioner Reverses Transfer of Popular Sarteneja Officer

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has kept his word and has rescinded the transfer of Sergeant William Marroquin, the officer in charge of the Sarteneja Police formation. When the news of Marroquin’s transfer spread throughout the community, residents complained and protested the move, insisting that he remains the fishing village.  Officer Commanding the northern police region, Senior Superintendent Christopher Noble, says that apart from keeping Marroquin in place, police have strengthened the relationship with the community to improve public safety. Meanwhile, Marroquin says that he is humbled by the support the community has shown.

SGT. William Marroquin, Officer Commanding Sarteneja Police:“In reference to my transfer I believe the community came out and they have seen the work and working with them that is our main objective, working with the community and the community working with us and the business sector. The Commissioner of Police I would think has already cleared up that point and we’re on a different page and we continue that extra work with the community.”
Sr. Supt. Christopher Noble, Northern Regional Commander: “What we have is the village the came out to support officer Marroquin they not only came out they made it a point all the way to Belmopan so he’s as the Commissioner has said his transfer is rescinded and he’s now here but what we did was we have a community clinic that is going on. We are making a best attempt to have our community clinic in these areas every week or in areas here we see there is a need for us to go in and speak to our community this gives rise for us to have better communication with people in our area and the people to have communication with us. What you see is the Cadet Program and surprises never quit because I did not know the cadets from Progresso would have been here so you are seeing now what in short order has become community support for the police in this area and embracing it is up to us. It is for us to continue it and do better for the community. You can speak to other people. I think it is a good thing when the community becomes the police and goes ahead in making this area safer not only for its community but for the people that visit the community.”

Speaking on the matter in a recent interview, Commissioner Williams said that transfers are a normal part of being a police officer
