The Taiwanese Government isn’t the only one under attack from the opposition, the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, continues to be called out by the UDP. This week, former Minister of Police, Michael Peyrefitte, told the media that he has lost all confidence in Williams, and is now calling for his resignation. Peyrefitte claims that under Williams’ watch, crime and violence are getting out of control. In response to that, Commissioner Williams was dismissive, and said that the calls for his resignation aren’t worthy of a response.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “You always come with a bunch of nonsense. Which people ? UDP ?”
Reporter: The former Minister of Police sir
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “You make it seems like majority of Belizeans are calling for me to resign which is not the case. Two persons are doing that Shyne and sometimes Peyrefitte. You expect me to respond to their – look ya.”
Our archives show that back in May 2022, Peyrefitte did call on Chester Williams to do some self-reflection. He noted, quote, “The Commissioner of Police needs to also consider and look within himself and think whether or not he needs to step aside and give way some new blood. He’s not cutting it. In my view, the police department needs a new commissioner.” End of quote.
