Police Continue Search for Escaped Prisoner William Carabantes

Police remain on the hunt for escaped prisoner William Carabantes. The accused rapist and Brian Castillo eluded officers during a transfer from the courthouse in Belmopan to the Belize Central Prison last week. The men picked their handcuffs and jumped out of a police mobile at a bump in Cotton Tree Village. Minister of Home Affairs, Kareem Musa, says that police are urging the public to assist in capturing Carabrantes.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries: “Prison breaks, escapes, happen all across the world. It’s just a part of life but I am just very thankful because of very good police work that we have apprehended the violent suspect. I know that the other one was charged with rape, which is also a violent offense and so we are very much still on the manhunt for that second individual but we’re very grateful to have recaptured the one who was charged with a double murder I believe.”

While Carabrantes remains on the lam, Castillo was captured over the weekend.
