Police Identify Suspect in Heritage Bank ATM The

Police have made a breakthrough in their investigation into the theft of a Heritage Bank ATM at the Puma Service Station at the junction of Faber’s Road and the George Price Highway. On November 30, a group of men targeted the machine and ripped it from the establishment’s wall before placing it inside a van and escaping. The brazen robbery was caught on surveillance footage, which the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says aided police in identifying a suspect. He says that the incident is similar to the theft of another ATM on Wednesday night, but police are not sure if they are connected.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Certainly there seems to be some similarity with what happened on Fabers road and what happened in Ladyville. It’s a matter we’re looking at. We’re looking for an individual who has been identified as the person who rented the van that was used in the Faber’s Road incident. We have not been able to find that person. I have told CIB to do a wanted poster and we’re going to issue that today for that individual and then we see how we go from there. But as I have said on the show this morning that there needs to be more done by the bank and the business establishments that do have these ATM machines. You’d know that the ATMs are not something that closes or that locks after a particular hour, it remains accessible twenty four hours and so so long as you have a card for the bank that houses the ATM you can access the ATM and do what you want in there. So what I am suggesting is that the bank that owns the ATM and the establishment that houses the ATM needs to come together and put additional security perhaps in the form of a guard or they can put some alarm systems on the ATM that in the event that the ATM is removed the alarm goes off and by the alarm going off it will alert the public and the thieves would be placed in a state of fear and may run leaving the ATM because once the alarm goes off they know it’s going to attract people to come around and may see them. So something needs to be done to put some additional security features at these establishments that do house these ATMs.”

The most recent ATM theft occurred on Thursday at the U Mall compound in Ladyville. A Heritage Bank ATM was also stolen from Hellen Wu Storen in Burrell Boom Back in May, and there were two unsuccessful attempts at stealing an ATM in the Cayo district earlier this year.
