Police investigate fires and Robbery of tourists

The Police Department on Ambergris Caye is investigating a home invasion styled aggravated burglary. The incident could have an impact on the island’s thriving tourism industry as it affects a key stakeholder, the tourists. The police say that Sapphire Beach Resort which is located some miles north of San Pedro Town was the scene of a robbery during which two guests of the hotel became victims of crimes in Belize just after 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

The San Pedro police formation does not have any suspects however, the investigating officers are hoping surveillance footage in the area can assist them with the investigation.

There was a fire in San Roman Village in the Stann Creek District. The Police department says that the homeowner, Juan Cucul believes he is the victim of arson.

The police say that the suspect is a relative of Cucul. But that’s not the only fire that the department is investigation. The police say that at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, Wallace Coy’s home went up, tragically in smoke.

ACP Myvette says that they do not yet know the cause of the fire.

In the north of the country, a Silva’s bus that was traveling to Corozal Town from the border with Mexico, was involved in an accident. Unlike most of the recently reported highway mishaps, Myette says this one did not result in a fatality.

The victim, 45 year old Jose Cortez continues to recover from his injuries.
