Police Investigate Suspected Arson After Punta Gorda Home Destroyed by Fire

Police are investigating the cause of a fire that gutted a wooden structure last night in Punta Gorda Town, Toledo District. Just before 9 o’clock, a blaze broke out at an elevated home on Far West Street owned by Jovan Savery. Fire personnel responded and extinguished the fire but not before it brought damages to a nearby two-story structure also owned by Savery. According to police, around 7:30, Savery and another man got into a physical altercation. Police were called and Savery was detained, but the other man managed to evade the cops. Less than two hours later, Savery was informed that the home and its contents were destroyed by fire. We understand that he (Savery) remains in police custody. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Police are seeking one man for questioning.
