Police looking to levy charges against Mervin Budran for sexual assault allegations

The Belize Police Department may be looking to bring charges against Mervin Budram for the sexual assault allegations brought against him. In recent days, the former church leader has been accused of sexual allegations by several young women. Budram stands accused of sexually assaulting as many as five women when they were children under his watch at church activities. Today, the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, weighed in on the matter and stated that a file has been sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I will not provide any details. I know that we have sent the file to the DPP’s office and we’re awaiting advice on that matter.”

Reporter: So you do have virtual complainants ?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Yes I think the police got some statements from some people and we are awaiting advice from the DPP.”

Reporter: And to clarify there is no statutory limit?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “No. If you all would remember we recently arrested Ambassador Rosado for a matter which took place many years ago. So it’s basically if the DPP believes there is sufficient there that warrants a prosecution.”
