Police Minister Speaks on Crime

Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, Kareem Musa, was the fifth speaker today. Minister Musa first touched on the progress made by his ministry concerning fighting crime. Musa also underscored the importance of the five dollar minimum wage.

Hon. Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries: “Madam Speaker and while we may be off the ropes we are still not out of the ring. With the continued war in Ukraine and projected recessions on the horizon there are more grueling rounds still ahead. We are just in the third round of at least a fifteen round fight. Meanwhile the former bewildered and corrupt trainers are chomping at the bits to get another opportunity to raid the barn. But Madam Speaker nation building and recovery is not for the faint of heart. It is not for the flip floppers and it is certainly not for the actors and pretenders and has-been entertainers. As our great leader Mr.Price said nation building is a task for giants. Madam Speaker as we engage in sober reflection we recognize that all may not be perfect but thanks to our Prime Minister, our hardworking government and our resilient Belizean people we are battle tested and ready to continue. The implementation of the $5 minimum wage goes a long way in easing the burden. The restoration of ful salaries to our hard working public officers, police officers, doctors and nurses a whole two years in advance and the restoration of increments a full year in advance is uplifting and appreciated by the Belizean people Madam Speaker. It gives our people the assurance and confidence that we are in their corner and that we are in this fight together shoulder to shoulder as Team Belize.”
