A Chinese business man was robbed of close to forty thousand dollars yesterday. At around eight o’clock 60 year old Wei Bin Chen, owner of Chen’s supermarket, was exiting his residence on Eduardo Juan Street in Santa Elena Town when he was accosted by two men. He was inside his vehicle, exiting his yard, when one of the men pulled out a firearm and pointed it Chen’s head, demanding for the money. The men grabbed a brown bag containing $38,000 after which they escaped on bicycles.
Corozal police are investigating a burglary which netted thieves fifty seven thousand dollars’ worth in items and cash. The burglary happened sometime on Sunday night at the residence of 66 year old Elena Sanchez. Police say, Sanchez woke up at around 11:30 to find out that her house had been burglarized. The thief or thieves stole cell phones, a laptop and an assortment of jewellery and cash; all to a total value of $57,062.
In Belize City, an armed robbery was reported this morning. Robbed at gun point this time was a salesman, Eduardo Perez. Perez told police that at around 9:20 he was on Mahogany Street conducting business when three men on bicycle approached him. One of the men was armed and the trio demanded that he hand over his backpack in which he had one thousand nine hundred and ninety eight dollars. The men escaped with the money. Police responded ten minutes after.
